GFRIEND Rises With ?Summer Rain?; Soompi?s K-Pop Music Chart 2017, October Week 1

koreaboo -

For the second time this year, GFRIEND has unseated EXO for the No. 1 spot!

Their latest hit “SUMMER RAIN,” which is also our only new song in the top 10 this week, moves up 10 notches to take over the top spot this week. Just six weeks ago, GFRIEND’s “LOVE WHISPER” overtook EXO’s “Ko Ko Bop” for the top spot in our chart. Now both artists have released the repackaged version of their albums, and both are hitting the top once again. “SUMMER RAIN” won on “M!Countdown” last week, and it is GFRIEND’s third No. 1 song on our chart this year, making them the first artist in 2017 to achieve that. Congratulations to GFRIEND!

“SUMMER RAIN” is the title track of GFRIEND’s repackaged fifth mini-album “RAINBOW.” It is a mid-tempo dance song that sampled “Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love) Op. 48” by Robert Schumann. The lyrics compare a sweet love story to summer rain showers.

EXO’s “Power” is down one spot to No. 2 this week. This song was narrowly edged out by “SUMMER RAIN” but still managed to win on “Music Bank” last week.

Rounding out the top three is Sunmi’s “Gashina,” moving back up one spot to No. 3. This song won on “Inkigayo” last week.
